A leveling kit is one of the most popular first mods for F150 owners and one of the most misunderstood. Here is everything — what it does, what size makes sense, what tyres fit, and what the trade-offs are.
Ford engineers the F150 with a factory rake — the front sits lower than the rear. This is intentional. When you load 1,500 pounds in the bed and hitch a heavy trailer the rear squats and the truck levels out. For owners who regularly do this the factory rake makes sense.
For the majority of F150 owners who never load the bed heavily or tow significant weight — that nose-down rake looks wrong and wastes potential tyre clearance. A leveling kit fixes both problems.
A leveling kit raises the front of the truck to match the rear height — typically 1.5 to 2.5 inches of front lift. The most popular size for the F150 is a 2-inch front leveling kit which brings the truck to a parallel stance and allows fitment of 33-inch tyres without rubbing on most configurations.
It does not raise the entire truck — only the front. If you want the entire truck raised higher you need a lift kit rather than a leveling kit.
| Tyre Size | 2" Level Kit | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 275/65R18 (stock size) | ✅ Perfect fit | No rubbing, no issues |
| 285/65R18 | ✅ Fits well | Slightly more aggressive look |
| 295/65R18 | ⚠️ May fit | Check specific trim — some rubbing possible |
| 305/65R18 (33") | ⚠️ Tight | May need minor trimming on some trims |
| 315/70R17 (35") | ❌ Too large | Needs 4"+ lift kit |
Any front suspension lift changes the operating angles of the front CV axles and ball joints. A 2-inch leveling kit on the F150 creates manageable angle changes — most owners drive for years without accelerated wear issues. Beyond 2.5 inches the angles become more significant and many F150 owners install aftermarket upper control arms to correct the geometry.
Get a front-end alignment after any leveling kit installation. The camber and caster angles change with the lift and alignment correction prevents uneven tyre wear.
ReadyLift is one of the most consistently recommended leveling kit brands for the F150. Their billet aluminium spacers are vehicle-specific, engineered to correct caster angle as part of the design, and install using factory hardware without modification. Thousands of F150 owners have installed ReadyLift kits with excellent results.
